Is your state or local association ready to assist members who experience violence, a natural disaster or another traumatic event?

Would you like to form a crisis response team in your state?

NEA HIN will host the 3rd annual NEA Crisis Response Team Training and Organizing Conference, June 1-3, 2005 at NEA headquarters in Washington, DC. Conference sessions will be delivered by experienced national and state affiliate staff, as well as experts in emergency management from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • NEA State/Local affiliate staff and members (individuals or teams) may attend.
  • Deadline for registration is Friday, May 20. To receive the negotiated room rate at the Wyndham Washington, hotel reservations must be made by Sunday, May 15.
  • Conference Timeline:
    • Participants should arrive on Tuesday, May 31 and depart on Friday, June 3
    • A welcome reception will be held on Tuesday, May 31 (5:30-8 pm) at NEA Headquarters
    • Opening sessions begin the morning of Wednesday, June 1
    • The conference will adjourn at 12:00 pm on Friday, June 3

    • Keynote presentation on disaster mental health and schools by psychologist and retired Admiral Assistant Surgeon General, Brian Flynn, Ed.D.

COST IMPLICATIONS:

Registration is free. Travel expenses and lodging must be covered by the State Affiliate. Total approximate cost per participant is $672.50 (double occupancy) or $905.00 (single occupancy). See below for details.

NEA HIN will cover the following costs:

  • Welcome Reception—Tuesday
  • Continental Breakfast—Wednesday, Thursday & Friday
  • Lunch—Wednesday & Thursday
  • Dinner—Thursday

Affiliates should be prepared to cover the following costs:

  • Travel Expenses: Taxis, tips, etc. (approximately $15/day x 4 days = $60)
  • Meals: Dinner on Tuesday and Wednesday; Lunch on Friday (approximately $80)
  • Hotel: A block of rooms for participants has been reserved at the Wyndham Washington (1400 M Street, NW) at the negotiated rate of $155/night. ($77.50/night x 3 nights = $232.50 double occupancy) or ($155/night x 3 nights = $465.00 single occupancy)
  • Airfare: Approximately $300

Total Approximate Cost Per Participant:

  • $672.50 (double occupancy)
  • $905.00 (single occupancy)
