Understanding the Indoor Environment
The resources listed below are for teachers in need of creative ideas for teaching the important subject of indoor air quality (IAQ) in the classroom. The concepts taught during the study of IAQ can be tied to state and district standards at any grade level. The resources provided below will provide ideas and activities that support the inquiry based teaching approach suggested by the National Science Teachers Association through the National Science Education Standards.
One valuable resource for schools is the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) IAQ Tools for Schools (IAQ TfS) Action Kit, an important instrument for school personnel and other concerned adults who are trying to improve the IAQ in schools. The lessons and resources featured below are identified because they support the policies and concepts of the IAQ TfS Program.

A summary is provided for each link and even though a grade level is suggested for each source, many of the lessons can be modified based on individual state and district curriculum.
