Chris Turner

Executive Director, Georgia Association of Educators

Mr. Turner has been Executive Director of the Georgia Association of Educators since 2002. He is also the elected representative of the Southeast region on the NEA NCSEA board and serves as NCSEA’s liaison to the NEA HIN Board.

Mr. Turner is a native of Ohio and prior to moving to Georgia he held various staff positions with the Ohio Education Association and the Arizona Education Association.  Mr. Turner retired from the Ohio Education Association in September of 2002.

Mr. Turner has more than 30 years of staff experience with the Association, and started out on education’s front line as a classroom teacher in the East Cleveland, Ohio school district in 1974. He immediately recognized the need for practitioners to have a say in their chosen profession, as experts who know first-hand what is and what is not succeeding in public school classrooms. As the Executive Director of  the Georgia Association of Educators, he builds and strengthens his professional association to supports all public education employees in their efforts to improve the education profession and to provide better educational opportunities for all children.

Mr. Turner holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Akron in Ohio and a Master’s degree in Business from Central Michigan University.  He is married and has two daughters.

When Mr. Turner is behaving and staying healthy, he walks 3 miles per day on the treadmill and he does not partake of red meats.
