Michael McPherson is the Chief Financial Officer of the National Education Association. He directs the all of NEA’s Financial and Business operations. He creates, coordinates, and evaluates the financial programs and supporting systems of the NEA including budgeting, tax planning, and conservation of assets.
He also directs the development of the Strategic Plan and Budget and provides oversight for the Internal Audit program; ensures compliance with local, state and federal budgetary reporting requirements; and establishes and maintains appropriate internal control safeguards.
As Chief Financial Officer for the Association, McPherson provides periodic updates to staff and affiliates about the prevailing global economic condition and related fiscal health of the organization and coordinates strategies for stability and growth.
McPherson serves on several planning and policy-making committees as well as on the NEA HIN Finance & Audit Committee, Education International’s Finance Committee, and the Audit and Financial Review Committee. He is a member of the California Casualty Group and a board member of the National Education Technology Funding Corporation (EddieTech).
Before joining NEA, McPherson was the Group Controller at the The Rouse Company, a real estate development company, and was Senior Auditor at Coopers and Lybrand.
Mr. McPherson earned both a BBA and a CPA from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
His tip for staying healthy it to just keep smiling, stay positive and exercise regularly. He also recommends listening regularly to Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds,” especially the line that says, “Don’t worry about a thing, for every little thing is gonna be alright.”
