Carrollton ES Breakfast Program To Be Featured in NEA Promotional Video
“We are proud to have one of our schools highlighted for their outstanding implementation of the Breakfast in the Classroom initiative,” said Dr. Alvin L. Crawley, Interim Superintendent of Schools. “Research indicates that eating a healthy breakfast enhances academic performance and improves overall health. This is one of a number of initiatives in our school district designed to enhance student achievement.”
The Breakfast in the Classroom initiative takes the traditional school breakfast approach and improves it with one key ingredient: the classroom. Breakfast is available to all students – regardless of income – and is served after the opening bell so that all children can easily participate.
“The Breakfast in the Classroom program has really made a difference at Carrollton Elementary School,” said principal Brian Galbraith. “We know all of our students are starting their day with a healthy meal, and they are energized and ready for learning.”
Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) is one of five school districts in the nation selected for participation in the Breakfast in the Classroom initiative, and is joined by Dallas Independent School District, Texas; Little Rock School District, Arkansas; Memphis City Schools, Tennessee; and Orange County Public Schools, Florida.
