Lisa Sharma Creighton

Senior Program Coordinator, Nutrition, Hunger and Physical Activity

Lisa is building NEA HIN’s scope of work in the areas of nutrition, hunger, and physical activity, including efforts to combat the childhood obesity epidemic. In this role she leads an national initiative to improve the quality of snack foods and beverages sold in schools, supports a project to increase school breakfast participation through the adoption of breakfast in the classroom, and provides trainings to NEA members on creating healthier schools. Lisa also works closely with other NEA departments to advise on issues related to child obesity and hunger policies and programs including work on farm-to-school.

Lisa favorite thing about working at NEA HIN is the opportunity to work directly with NEA members and hear stories about how our programs affect their lives.

Prior to joining NEA HIN in August of 2010, Lisa managed the National League of Cities’ childhood obesity prevention portfolio, helping cities across the country implement comprehensive, citywide wellness strategies, and producing resources and trainings for city leaders on combating childhood obesity at the local level. Lisa’s recent publications include Community Wellness: Comprehensive City-School Strategies to Reduce Childhood Obesity (National League of Cities Press) and The Food Industry and Self-Regulation: Standards to Promote Success and to Avoid Public Health Failures (American Journal of Public Health). Before she entered the field of public health, Lisa had a successful career in investment banking within the global life science and healthcare sector.

Lisa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from New York University and a Master of Public Health and Master of Business Administration in Health Policy and Management from Johns Hopkins University.

Lisa’s tips for a healthy lifestyle are staying active and eating well. She’s a big fan of outdoor activities like hiking and biking, and she loves to cook homemade meals, especially when it involves experimenting with fruits and vegetables from her local farmer’s market.
