2.25.15 Healthy Me, Better Year Update: Jim Bender
Earlier this year I posted some tweets about how I work regular exercise into my daily routine: Biking to work and pushing my three year old around in the stroller. January gets pretty challenging for biking—even a little snow creates a dangerous situation. My Brandon balks at sub-freezing temperatures, even with his snowsuit.
What are some other ways to keep moving this time of year? Consider these…
- Look for more ways to work staying active into your day. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, use the less convenient bathroom in your building, walk the mall while listening to your favorite music.
- Push Yourself. Get in a plank position. Hold your plank for at least 30 seconds. Repeat 2 times.
- Strengthen. Do three sets of 15 bicep curls using your preferred weights. No weights? Grab a can of soup and start curling.
- Dance. Put on your favorite song. Move your hands and feet to the music (read: wave ‘em in the air like you just don’t care) for at least three minutes.
- Follow the 20/20/20 Rule. After every 20 minutes on the computer, take a break. Stand up and look at something 20 feet away, for 20 seconds.
The bottom line is that we just need to find different ways to make activity happen. I would love to hear about how you keep active at home, at work or at play. Email me at [email protected].
