Resources
for Cancer Survivors
From the
time of discovery and for the balance of life, an individual diagnosed
with cancer is a survivor.

NEA Cancer
Survivors and Supporters Caucus (NEA-CSSC)
The
NEA-CSSC arose out of a need to educate NEA members on the importance
of cancer prevention and early detection. To accomplish this, a
Caucus was established for not only survivors of all forms of cancer,
but also supporters…those individuals who have lost a friend and/or
loved one to the battle. With 141 founding members in its first
two days of existence, the NEA-CSSC aims to build its membership
and teach NEA members that early detection is the best protection.
The NEA-CSSC
had its launch at this year’s Representative Assembly held in Los
Angeles, CA. In two days, 141 NEA members joined the Caucus to make
it a huge success. A reception was held where the following officers
were elected:
President:
Phyllis SewardVice-President:
Shirley HowardSecretary:
Mary Carpenter and Jeannie LaneTreasurer:
Sharon White
The Caucus membership
form is now available online! Dues are $10 for an active membership
and $5 for associate, student, and retired members. A NEA-CSSC lapel
pin and voting card are free with membership.
In addition
to the caucus, NEA HIN sponsored the Cancer Survivor’s Photo Exhibit
and Memory Wall. By the end of the convention, the entire wall was
covered with pictures, memories, and momentos.
The Photo Exhibit
and Memory Wall will be sponsored by the NEA-CSSC this year at the
Representative Assembly in Dallas, TX. For those who will not be
able to attend but would still like to send pictures for inclusion,
please mail them to: Danielle Rentz; 1201 16th St. NW Ste 521; Washington,
DC 2036. Photos should include name, form of cancer, and years survived.
Unfortunately, pictures will not be returned.
If you have
questions or suggestions for the NEA-CSSC please email Danielle
Rentz or call 202-822-7570.
