attention or were newly released. Inclusion of resources in this section does

not constitute an endorsement from the NEA or the NEA HIN. Educators should

review the materials to determine their suitability in classroom settings.

The Science, Spread, and Therapy of HIV Disease

Written by Michael A. DiSpezio, the educator who designed the first HIV/AIDS curriculum for middle school, high school and college-level courses, this book focuses on the scientific aspects of the disease. Seventy modular sections are presented in a concise, user-friendly question and answer format. Although written for a broad audience, this book is particularly suited for young adults. It contains descriptions of the disease, its outbreak, basic biology and the fundamentals of viruses. This new release is also the first HIV/AIDS book with a dedicated website, www.ATLPress.com/HIV that features content updates, downloadable color images (ideal for classroom use), links to other HIV resources, and interaction with the author. Youth and HIV/AIDS: A Guide to Training and Technical
Assistance Resources (expanded version)


The National Network’s Safe Choices Project recently updated and expanded this publication. It lists national, regional and local HIV/AIDS organizations, youth-serving organizations, organizations serving specific populations, HIV/AIDS hotlines, and resource materials concerning prevention efforts for high-risk youth. The new version includes sections on adolescent sexuality, HIV prevention for street youth, cultural competency, HIV prevention for sexual minority youth, HIV prevention programming, adolescent HIV counseling and testing, and HIV resource sharing and networking. Women in the Time of AIDS: Women, Health and the Challenge of HIV

Written by Gillian Paterson and published by the World Council of Churches, this book is a compilation of research conducted worldwide about women, their health, and the challenges posed by HIV. Some of the topics discussed include misinformation about AIDS, cultural devaluation of women, and cultural taboos about HIV and AIDS. The cost is $14.00.
