Infectious Disease Prevention

All Bloodborne diseases may be prevented through proper prevention.  All prevention begins with proper preparation.  Major strategies for prevention include:

    Handwashing

Handwashing is one of the best means of disease prevention.  Ensuring that soap and water are accessible at all times is essential to preventing the spread of disease.  When soap and water is not accessible, alcohol-based hand sanitizers should be used. Also, be sure that non-latex disposable gloves are available and used whenever bodily fluids are present.  This will help prevent an infection and further the spread of bloodborne diseases.

    Immunization

Vaccines help to protect individuals from preventable disease than can make them ill or even result in death.  Vaccines are the most effective means of controlling infectious diseases.  They not only protect individuals who get them, they also protect others around them.  Visit our vaccination page for more information and resources.
