Schools face a variety of challenges, among them violence, bullying, and natural disasters. Schools and educators need to be prepared. Among the many issues related to School and Community Safety is the issue of gun safety and violence prevention. NEA has taken a firm stand on this issue of gun violence, particularly as it relates to school personnel. Specifically:
- NEAToday published the article, “Arming Educators – A Bad Idea That Hasn’t Gone Away,” clarifying the position of the organization with a strong statement from Dennis Van Roekel.
- NEA and HIN will continue to speak for the majority of our members and uphold the position declared by a joint press statement from NEA and AFT following the Sandy Hook shooting in December 2012.
