Through
a 2004 Representative Assembly New Business
Item (#9) and a cooperative agreement with
EPA, NEA
HIN
will
provide
funding
to send up to 20 teams of NEA members and UniServ
staff (approximately 60 individuals) to the
5th annual U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) IAQ TfS National Symposium and
2nd annual NEA HIN Pre-Symposium IAQ training
(December
1-4). This
funding covers the cost of travel, conference
registration fees, lodging, and meals.  Substitute
teacher funds will be available for teachers
who need this coverage.

Building on last year’s success NEA HIN, a
co-sponsor of the Symposium, will once again
conduct a Pre-Symposium training to address
IAQ issues from the union perspective. This
day-long training will take place Wednesday,
December 1 and will be held at NEA Headquarters.

This
year the IAQ TfS Symposium will
be held December 2-4 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel
in Washington,
D.C. and will center around the IAQ TfS program.
This is a nationwide initiative to help school
employees and others assess, resolve, and prevent
IAQ problems and reduce exposure to asthma
triggers in schools. Each year teachers, education
Support professionals, UniServ staff, school
board officials, administrators,
and others attend the conference to discuss
improving IAQ in our nation’s schools.
Innovative workshops will be offered on mold
remediation, carpet in schools, student health,
cleaning and maintenance, and more. (By recruiting teams we hope to foster successful implementation of IAQ
management plans in schools across the country.)

*NEA HIN
is
conducting
a Pre-Symposium training on December
1st to address IAQ issues from the
union perspective. This session is
mandatory for NEA members and UniServ
staff attending the Symposium. The IAQ TfS Symposium
will be held December 2-4th.
