Objective

Many

teachers will want to acknowledge September 11,

but will not spend an entire class period discussing

the events. This activity allows for that acknowledgment

and then provides a connection to whatever typically

has been planned for the day.

Lesson

Teachers

should tell students that they recognize the importance

of September 11. Today we are going to focus first

on our feelings about the event and then go to

a lesson on whatever the teacher has planned.

Divide class into groups of 6- 8 seated around

tables or on the floor. Each group should have

a piece of poster paper or newsprint and each

student should have a different colored marker.

Students are told they have 5-7 minutes to put

on the poster everything they think or feel about

the events of 9/11. Students may put a word, phrase

or simple drawing. The first student puts his/her

comment and passes the paper to the next student.

Students should get as much on the paper as they

possibly can. At the end of the time period, display

posters and allow students to talk about what

the posters have in common.
