Welcome to The National Education Association Health Information Network (NEA HIN) Programs Page:

NEA HIN was established as the NEA’s 501(c)(3) health and safety education division in 1987. The mission of HIN is to improve the health and safety of school personnel and students through the provision of vital and timely information that will increase the professional quality of school employees and improve student achievement. 

NEA HIN works with its funding partners, who include the federal government, private foundations, and corporations, to provide health information, training, programs, and materials to NEA’s 3.2 million educational employees. These include both teachers and a cadre of educational support professionals such as school nurses, librarians, cafeteria workers, administrative assistants, custodians, bus drivers, and others. HIN helps employees and students learn and practice healthy behaviors and make healthy decisions, and advocates for adequate health protections in the workplace. 

NEA HIN’s programs are tackling some of today’s most critical public health issues, including: 

Emergency preparedness, response, and recovery and other school safety issues;

Chronic disease prevention and education;

Social health, including teen pregnancy, STI’s, smoking, and drug abuse

Environmental health indoor air quality and green schools

Physical activity and nutrition including obesity prevention 

Mental health, including stress, anxiety, and depression
