Working
Women ROCC! (Reaching Out Against Cervical
Cancer)
NEA HIN has the opportunity to build on our cancer
education efforts through a partnership with
the Academy for
Educational Development (AED).
With AED, we are launching a powerful social
marketing and health communication campaign called
Working Women ROCC! (Reaching Out Against Cervical
Cancer). The first phase of this project will
focus on Hispanic women, and cervical cancer
information is most useful and important to them.
Hispanic women residing in the United States
have twice the cervical cancer incidence rate
of non-Hispanic whites, and among women in the
United States, those born in Mexico have higher
prevalence of human papilloma virus (HPV), a
virus linked to increased risk for cervical cancer.
In addition, the American Cancer Society reports
that the death rate from cervical cancer is 40%
higher among Hispanic women than among other
groups.
