Mental
Health
Did you know that
75-90% of visits to physicians are stress related?
Did you know that
every year more than 17 million Americans suffer from clinical depression,
including one in every five young people?
The impact of stress
and other mental wellness issues on the educational environment is becoming
a major issue among school employees and students. This growing concern
was reflected in the past two Representative Assemblies where more than
10,000 NEA delegates directed the NEA, through New Business Items, to
explore this issue and make more information available to schools on mental
wellness.
The NEA HIN Mental
Wellness program is partnering with national expert mental health organizations
and programs to establish an information, education, and training center
for NEA members on the nature of critical mental health issues facing
school employees and students, and ways to address these issues in school
and Education Association settings.
